Our Cellar

The revival of Vézelay’s vineyard is closely linked to the one of the Cave Henry de Vézelay, now known as the "Vignerons de la Colline Eternelle". Following the phylloxera crisis in 1884, the regional vineyard disappears.

Replanting with quality varieties dates from 1973. It takes origin in the will of a small group of men (stemming from various backgrounds), which decides to start the adventure of rebuilding the vineyard of Vézelay.

In order to select the best vines, a sample vineyard is planted in the village of Asquins with differents varieties (Chardonnay - Pinot Noir - Auxerrois - Melon - Gamay).

From the will of the producers to produce quality wines came the emergence of the cooperative Cave Henry de Vézelay. To value the soils and the "terroir", adequate means of production are used on purpose to produce grapes of an essential quality in order to obtain a character wine such as the Bourgogne Vézelay.

After ten years of effort, the work of the new wine-growers is crowned with success in 1985 with the granting of INAO (French national Institute for Quality Wines) which recognizes the naming Bourgogne (Burgundy) for vines Chardonnay and Pinot noir on a geographical area of 330 ha, distributed on 4 villages: Saint-Père, Asquins, Tharoiseau, Vézelay. In 1997, the wines from Chardonnay grapes receive the regional appellation Bourgogne Vézelay. Then, after 20 more years of effort, from the 2017 vintage we got the village appellation "Vézelay".

The 12 wine-growers of the Vignerons de la Colline Eternelle grow an area of 35 ha. Reflective of our geology, white wines reign supreme as accounting more than half of the production, including 80% of wines from Chardonnay and 5% from Melon of Burgundy. Red wines production remains marginal, though it arises from soils where the Pinot noir reaches its most intense expression.

Quality

Thanks to a policy that takes advantage on quality and environmental protection, wines of Cave Henry de Vézelay are available in several foreign countries such as Germany, Belgium and Netherlands… Several times, we have medals greeted the quality of our work and wines at the Concours Général Agricole of Paris (General Agricultural Competition), at the Golden Burgundia and Concours Gilbert et Gaillard, and also in various wine guides like Guide Hachette, Gault Millau, Revue du Vin de France...

We have joined the association Morvan Terroirs since 2006 and benefit from the brand and seal Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan (Regional Natural reserve of Morvan) since 2008 for our Cuvées Terroir (red and white). Purchase a wine with the brand "Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan" ensures you the valuation of the territory by a strict specification and a well-protected environment.
